I knew September was going to be big and here we are mid-month and the days are already hopping. Kids are back at school, pumpkin spice lattes are popping up everywhere – I’ve never had one but people seem to love them – and I’ve got fresh work out for your listening and reading pleasure. Two new episodes of Let’s Talk Memoir are airing now, Inkwell has published a short creative nonfiction piece of mine, and I am co-paneling at Podfest’s 10th anniversary alongside three powerhouse writing podcasts. Please read on for links and news.

Also in September…

Let’s Talk Memoir is back!

Season 3 of Let’s Talk Memoir is officially launched with episode 46 featuring acclaimed memoirist Abigail Thomas, and episode 47 featuring Editor-in-Chief of Brevity Magazine, the one and only Dinty W. Moore. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season with conversations about staying curious, discovering your writer’s voice, allowing yourself to be peculiar on the page, and how giving yourself the freedom and room to play is as important as being relentless in revision.

My latest work out now

Snow blanketing sand dunes, a high school crush, driving to the beach at midnight – I’ve got new creative nonfiction out in Inkwell Magazine entitled “Everything You Care About” which is available in print and also online here on p.81: https://www.mville.edu/english-creative-writing/creative-writing-mfa-inkwell.php

Thank you very much to the editors for giving this piece a home.

I’m speaking at Podfest’s 10th anniversary!

My friend the writer, editor, and podcaster Estelle Erasmus invited me to be part of her panel on writing and publishing at Podfest this year in Orlando. I’ll be co-presenting with Estelle who hosts Freelance Writing Direct, Bianca Marais of The Shit No One Tells You About Writing, and Zibby Owens of Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books and Zibby Books. This is a powerhouse panel that I am very excited to be part of. Thank you, Estelle! More information on this conference and tickets with my discount code here.

A very Happy Women Dinner

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of moderating a Q and A with Laura Cathcart Robbins about her new memoir STASH. Here we are with Sara Dean of Shameless Mom Academy. Such a warm and supportive group of writers, readers, podcasters, and moms who gathered for this Happy Women Dinner to learn more about Laura’s approach to writing her memoir and what she’s learned about the genre. Laura is insightful and intuitive and shared so generously about her experience. I got to interview Laura on Let’s Talk Memoir which was a highlight season 2 for me and you can listen to that conversation here.

I hope you have a good start to your Fall and find time to do a bit of something that feeds you and feeds your creative life. In next month’s newsletter I’ll have more episodes of Let’s Talk Memoir to share, my new craft article on scenes in memoir, and more. In the meantime, please tell me, do you like pumpkin spice lattes? Should I try one or are they skip-able?

xo,

Ronit
